Lundy Island, Devon, (N 51°10'29" W 004°40'12") Card 150x150mm with recycled envelope and biodegradable cello. Detailed caption on the reverse of the card. Card is blank for your own message. Lundy Island is situated 18 km (11 miles) off the north coast of Devon in the Bristol Channel; its western side is braced against the powerful Atlantic swell with nothing between it and America. The 5 km (3 miles) long island is of exceptionally hard granite (which was used to build the Thames Embankment) rising 122 metres (400 feet) above sea level and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. With tales of Vikings, pirates and intrigue, the colourful history of Lundy stretches back to Neolithic times. Today there are only a few permanent residents (about 18), who enjoy a peaceful and unspoilt island life. Most of Lundy is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the richness of its flora and fauna, and it is famous for its puffins. Photograph copyright of Adrian Warren & Dae Sasitorn |
